GLORIOUS GOODWOOD - ANOTHER EXCUSE TO WEAR A HAT
05 July 13
Glorious Goodwood is only three weeks away (Tuesday 30 July to Saturday August 3), where top-class racing, Pimms and champagne create the perfect summer cocktail and of course, another excuse to hire a hat.
Hats and headpieces at Glorious Goodwood range from the smart and stylish slice to the more relaxed pretty headpiece. The general style-vibe at Goodwood is more bohemian than Royal Ascot. You can team a floaty long-skirt with a soft percher (adding a blazer or lighter cardigan) and feel perfectly poised to pick a winner!
Larger brimmed hats are popular too, but are not as attention seeking as some of the creations see at Royal Ascot!
Goodwood is regarded as the most beautiful racecourse in the world, with breathtaking views across rolling hills down to the sea, a perfect garden party atmosphere, laughter filled bars on the decking around the paddock, and lawns at the front of the Grandstand to bask in the sun.
At Glorious Goodwood ladies are encouraged to wear a hat and it’s the event of the year for men to reach into their wardrobe and dust-down their Panamas.
There’s no strict dress-code at Glorious Goodwood, but the different enclosures do encourage certain standards. If you’re heading to the Richmond Enclosure men will be wearing jackets and ties, often a classic linen suit, and the atmosphere is more relaxed.
Softer colours, delicate layers and beading will complement the occasion and The Hat Club have a great collection of hats and headpieces to complete your outfit.
Don’t leave it right to the last minute! Hats are being hired already so give yourself the best choice and come early.
If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, the race of the meeting is likely to be the QIPCO Sussex Stakes on the Wednesday (a race won by the mighty Frankel in 2012) when the exceptional Dawn Approach renews his battle with Toronado, after beating the latter by a nose at Royal Ascot.
